We all knew the machine that is Slipknot was starting to gather momentum again ahead of a 2019 album release and touring cycle, but nobody was expecting a new song to drop this year.
‘All Out Life’ is instantly recognisable as Slipknot – it’s got that unique sound that fans of the American heavy metal band all grew up listening to.
I love the song and have had it on repeat most of the week. However, there are a few things that give the impression that it might not be the final cut; the mix sounds very rough, and some of the drum fills feel drowned out.
Ever since the single dropped on Halloween there’s been a lot of talk amongst fans and critics alike, with people saying this is IOWA (2001) levels of heavy. But I don’t really hear that. It sounds like a continuation of the progression from All Hope Is Gone (2008) and .5: The Gray Chapter (2014)
There’s also talk of the upcoming album being the band’s last; regardless of whether it is or not, Slipknot have firmly cemented themselves back at the top of the metal business.
