On the weekend of August 17 – 182018, Runrig, the most successful Celtic rock band of all time, invited the world to their homeland, Scotland, for what would turn out to be the two most legendary concerts in the band’s 45-year history. The final concerts were sold out in minutes. 50,000 fans from all over the world descended on Stirling over two nights to participate in The Last Dance with the six musicians. For the band and their fans, these concerts were an emotional tour de force – something the fans have come to know and love over the years, but on a scale previously unheard of.
What a backdrop! Surrounded by rugged volcanic rocks and rich green hills, the heart of Scotland manifests itself – proud, serene and in close touch with nature. In the background, the imposing Stirling Castle looms large – but for two weeks now, there has been a hive of activity stirring beneath its great shadow. A massive open-air stage has been set up in the middle of Stirling City Park with its 25,000-crowd capacity. Not a single room is available within a 100km radius of Stirling, all flights to Glasgow and Edinburgh are sold out and the pubs and restaurants are packed and buzzing.
Produced by Scotland’s premier digital entertainment company Blazing Griffin, and directed by life-long Runrig fan Marcus Viner (David Bowie, Kylie Minogue, Mercury Music Prize), the Highlanders farewell concert was captured by over 30 cameras and state of the art audio recorders to create a fully immersive film that will imprint Runrig in our hearts and minds forevermore.
