this_is_the_end_This weekend is the end… well, the start of the end anyway with the first of this years two big ‘end of the world’ comedies hitting cinemas (the other being THE WORLDS END with Simon Pegg, which opens in a few weeks). THIS IS THE END, which features an all-star cast (Seth Rogen, James Franco etc) playing themselves at a huge house party which gets rudely interrupted by the apocalypse.

Also out is DESPICABLE ME 2. The sequel to the hugely successful film starring Steve Carrell as evil mastermind Gru. In this one he is recruited to go undercover to find an evil genius who is even more evil than him… or something… I don’t really care to be honest because I hated the first one… stupid, annoying little minion things…

And on Blu-ray we have the frankly stupid HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS which stars Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner as the titular siblings going up against evil and that. Also out is the mildly amusing but extremely overlong THIS IS 40. Judd Apatow directs this ‘sort of sequel’ to KNOCKED UP and it stars Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann and Chris O’Dowd. It is funny but the improvised dialogue and tiresome banter does grate over the 134 minute running time…

Ta ta for now, people. Have a good weekend!
