The first poster and trailer have dropped for X-Men: Apocalypse, the third movie in the X-Men prequel trilogy, in which James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender play mutant friends-turned-enemies Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr, better known by their aliases Professor X and Magneto.
The follow-up to smash hit X:Men: Days of Future Past catches up with the characters in 1983. The trailer begins with Jean Grey (played by Games of Thrones’ Sophie Turner) who wakes up from a terrible vision of the world’s end. Professor X is on hand to reassure her that it was just a dream, but as the trailer progresses, the X-Men are faced with a major threat: the titular Apocalypse, played by soon-to-be Star Wars hero Oscar Isaac. Apocalypse is the first and most powerful mutant from the X-Men universe, who has awoken from a slumber and is ready to cause havoc.
The fast-paced trailer promises crowd-pleasing thrills and top performances from the A List cast, which includes Jennifer Lawrence as Raven, Rose Byrne as Moira, Nicholas Hoult as Hank and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler.
X-Men fans will be particularly thrilled to see the final seconds of the trailer, in which James McAvoy’s Professor X finally resembles the Patrick Stewart version of the character, with his iconic bald head, three-piece suit and wheelchair.
X-Men: Apocalypse is released on 19 May 2016.
