Broadchurch returns to our screens in the new year and as an early Christmas present, ITV have released a trailer for you to pore over. Not much is known about the second season, just that it will include the fallout from the first season’s finale, with DS Miller’s (Olivia Colman) husband, arrested for murder. The new season features several new faces including James D’Arcy (Cloud Atlas, Eve Myles (Torchwood), Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Without A Trace) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (The Iron Lady).

Though The Casual Vacancy does not air until February 2015, JK Rowling was also in the news this week as it was announced that the BBC will adapt her Cormoran Strike novels, about a private investigator. With two novels already published (The Cuckoo’s Calling and Silkworm), as well as others planned for the future, the BBC are hoping that these will become a major new drama series.

Ryan Murphy’s forthcoming true crime series, American Crime Story, has found its lead in the form of Cuba Gooding Jr (Jerry Maguire) who will star as O.J. Simpson. Each season of the anthology-style show will follow one crime story, in a similar vein to Murphy’s American Horror Story.

Ryan Murphy’s other anthology series Scream Queens is also beginning to find its cast, with Murphy regular Emma Roberts (American Horror Story) starring alongside actual scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween).

In other casting news, Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad) and Kirsten Dunst (Spiderman) have joined the cast of FX’s Fargo and will play married couple Peggy and Ed Blomquist.

Another week, and another superhero project in the works. This time, it’s Syfy, with a series in development from David S. Goyer (Batman Begins) and Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time) titled Krypton. If the name wasn’t enough of a clue, the series would be a prequel to Superman, jumping back to Supe’s home planet and following his grandfather as he struggles to bring peace to a troubled world.

Check out the first trailer for the Call The Midwife Christmas special, set to air at 7:50pm on Christmas day. The feature length episode will see the characters rehearsing for a Christmas play, as well as trying to bring some festive cheer to a struggling Mother and Baby home.
