ITV have released an action packed trailer for Downton Abbey, which hints at new love interests, both upstairs and down. Set in 1924, this season will see great change coming to Downton as the country elects its first ever Labour government. The fifth season premieres from 9pm on Sunday 21st September and will guest star Richard E. Grant (Doctor Who) and Anna Chancellor (The Hour).

Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom returns later this year for a third and final season and to whet your appetite, HBO have released a short teaser trailer. Although it contains no new footage, the trailer shows snippets of dialogue, hinting that a major storyline this year centres around a whistleblower. Could this be related to last season’s fake news story about a military operation in Pakistan? We’ll have to tune in to find out.

Netflix have given the green light on their first French drama series – Marseilles, which is described as a “tale of power, corruption and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the French port city”. The series will follow Robert Taro, a man who has been mayor for twenty-five years, coming up against a hotshot youngster as they both fight to claim City Hall.

Ryan Murphy (Glee) is always keen to keep plot details of American Horror Story close to his chest, but FX have now unveiled key artwork for the upcoming fourth series, subtitled Freakshow. The new season will follow a travelling circus as they come into the small town of Jupiter, Florida in 1952, just as a dark power seems to be gathering. Regular cast members Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Jessica Lange and Frances Conroy are all returning, alongside newcomers Michael Chiklis (The Shield) and singer Patti LaBelle.

Marvel’s upcoming Agent Carter has added two new faces in the forms of Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) and Enver Gjokaj (Dollhouse). The eight episode series will pick up after the events of Captain America and follow Hayley Atwell’s Agent Peggy Carter as she carries out covert missions for SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve) – the early prototype of S.H.I.E.L.D.

FX have given a full season order to Baskets, a comedy created by Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover), Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia) and Louie CK (Louie). It will follow a man named Chip Baskets (Galifianakis) as he desperately tries to achieve his life’s ambition of becoming a respected clown, but of course things don’t exactly go as he planned.
