Showtime have released a teaser for their upcoming gothic series, Penny Dreadful, set to premiere in 2014. The new horror show will feature many famous literary characters such as Dorian Gray, Count Dracula and Dr. Frankenstein, living in Victorian London and is set to star Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down) and Eva Green (Casino Royale).
Netflix announced this week that the highly anticipated Breaking Bad spin-off, Better Call Saul, will be shown on the online streaming service within days of its US premiere on AMC in 2014. Not much is known about the new series, but it comes from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and writer Peter Gould, and will be an origin story of sorts for sleazy lawyer, Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk).
Sky Atlantic announced that the third series of HBO comedy Girls would premiere in the UK at 10pm on 20th January. Created by Lena Dunham, the show follows the lives of four friends in New York City, struggling to grow up and dealing with the various trials that life throws at them.
Channel 5 have picked up the UK rights for Battlestar Galactica creator, Ronald D. Moore’s newest sci-fi series, Helix. The new show follows a team of CDC scientists sent to investigate a possible pandemic at a research base in the Arctic, only to discover that they could be all that stands in the way of a global outbreak. Set to premiere in January, it stars Billy Campbell (The 4400), Hiroyuki Sanada (Lost) and Kyra Zagorsky (Soldiers of the Apocalypse).
Lastly, casting news continues to trickle out for the upcoming 24 revival, 24: Live Another Day, with the announcement that Judy Davis (Barton Fink) has signed up as a recurring character named Margot. Little is known about the new series, set to take place over the customary 24 hours, in 12 episodes, but it will be set in Europe, with filming expected to begin in London early next year.
