Help for Matt Damon is only 140 million miles away in the new official trailer for the upcoming sci-fi drama The Martian and the battle to survive is on.
After a freak storm leaves Mark Watney presumed dead and stranded on Mars, the astronaut must find a way to live on the hostile planet using his very limited resources, all the while trying to come up with a plan to get back home.
First thing’s first, the book by Andy Weir is fantastic, and this film looks like it has every intention of following in its footsteps. From the stunning Mars landscapes to the fantastically raw human emotions, everything about this trailer says that The Martian is an epic film-in-the-making, and one to be very excited for indeed.
A true survivalist tale, this trailer sees director Ridley Scott back in comfortable science fiction territory with a lead actor in Damon that so far appears to be a perfect Watney, a star-studded cast of supporting roles featuring the likes of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig and Jessica Chastain, and an accompanying sound check from The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
All of which combines of course to make The Martian the best, if not the coolest, trailer you will see all week.
“I guarantee you, that at some point, everything’s gonna go south on you,” Damon’s Watney tells us at the start of the trailer, “and you’re gonna say, ‘this is it, this is how I end’. Now you can either accept that, or you can get to work.”
Mark Watney gets to work.
The Martian is out in UK cinemas on 2 October, 2015.
