Snow White and the Huntsman, a reimagining of the Snow White story starring Kristen Stewart alongside Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, opened to mixed reviews back in 2012, but was a box-office success.
Earlier this year, we reported that a sequel to the movie had been greenlit. This week, the trailer dropped for this new adventure, entitled The Huntsman: Winter’s War.
The new film is a prequel, in which Stewart is absent, but Theron and Hemsworth reprise their roles as the evil queen and the titular Huntsman. They’re joined by stalwart actresses Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt. Chastain plays a fellow warrior who embarks upon an illicit romance with Hemsworth’s character, whilst Blunt is Freya the ice queen, a heartbroken maiden who has spent decades in a remote palace training an army of deadly huntsman. The Hunger Games’ Sam Claflin and British actors Sheridan Smith, Nick Frost and Colin Morgan round out the film’s cast.
The trailer is beautifully filmed, replete with snow-capped vistas and gorgeous costumes, whilst the all-star cast make an appealing ensemble. Whether the plot is strong or compelling enough remains to be seen, but this is an intriguing first look.
The Huntsman: Winter’s War will be released on 22 April 2016.
