Oscar winner Cate Blanchett and the talented Rooney Mara have teamed up for Carol, a beautiful story of love and longing. The film chronicles the relationship between young department store clerk Therese (Mara) and the alluring, unhappy Carol, who is trapped in a loveless marriage.

The new trailer is beautifully filmed; bathed in dappled light and complemented by the glamour of 1950s New York. Mostly wordless, the trailer suggests sensations and feelings by its visuals and the expressive faces of its two leads. Blanchett and Mara are two gifted, compassionate actresses and their pairing promises great results.

Based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith (The Talented Mr Ripley) and directed by Todd Haynes (I’m Not There), Carol is set to be a romantic, elegant and poignant drama. The film will premiere at the 59th BFI London Film Festival’s American Express Gala in September.
