Top 10 Winter Warmers – Songs of the Season

When the nights start to draw slightly earlier each evening, and the wind becomes just that little bit chillier, you want for nothing more than to kick back in front of a roaring fire with some hot chocolate, along with some festive tunes to really bring out your seasonal spirit. Here are our top ten winter warmers to get you jingling all the way:

1. Warm this Winter – Gabriella Cilmi

The title alone gives off a merry vibe and the song itself doesn’t disappoint. ‘Right by the fireplace, we shared our first embrace,’ how lovely.

2. Walking in the Air – Aled Jones

This classic had to be included on the list. Whether you’re 5 or 65, this festive favourite always warms the coldest of hearts. The poor snowman…

3. Real Love – Tom Odell

If it’s good enough for the John Lewis Christmas advert then it’s good enough for us. You can’t help but shed a tear when you think about the penguins whilst listening to this touching ballad.

4. Somewhere Only We Know – Lily Allen

Lily Allen’s rendition of Keane’s song is hauntingly beautiful. It was the theme of the John Lewis advert last Christmas and we think it’s safe to say that they really know how to pick them.

5. Fairytale of New York – The Pogues

Another Christmas classic that you just can’t ignore during the holiday season, especially in pubs. Even if you can’t understand some of Shane MacGowan’s slightly incoherent lyrics, you can sway along anyway, with a Guinness in hand.

6. Baby It’s Cold Outside – Tom Jones and Cerys Matthews

It’s a song that has been covered too many times to count but this version has to be the favourite. Aside from the somewhat ‘cheesy’ music video, Jones and Matthews’ voices complement each other in a way that really brings out the holiday spirit.

7. It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas – Michael Bublé

If this version doesn’t get you in the festive mood we don’t know what will. Bublé’s crooning voice is the equivalent of mulled wine for the ears.

8. What’s This? – Chris Sarandon as Jack Skellington

A heartening number from Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas where Jack first discovers Christmas Town. Even if you’re not a fan you can still appreciate Danny Elfman’s cheery composition.

9. Frosty the Snowman – Jackson 5

Everyone loves a good sing-along and with the Jackson 5’s version there’s no shortage of high notes to really belt out. Such a jolly rendition, what’s not to love?

10. Christmas Lights – Coldplay

Coldplay really hit the mark with this seasonal number, their usual soulful backing track complete with Christmassy lyrics really puts you in a merry mood.

What’s your favourite festive tune?
