Following on from a sunny May Bank Holiday weekend which many Brits spent watching the latest cinema releases, we’re here to round up the top movie updates you need to know about. From Meryl Streep’s latest role alongside Hugh Grant to the moving trailer for documentary Batkid Begins, this has been an insightful week in the world of cinema.

First image released of Meryl Streep starring in Florence Foster Jenkins

In her record-breaking, Oscar winning career, Meryl Streep has played her fair share of icons. Now she can add famous would-be opera singer and New York socialite Florence Foster Jenkins to her list. The upcoming, eponymous film follows the true story of Foster Jenkins, a New York heiress who dreamt of becoming a great opera singer. Florence had the money and means to pursue the dream. The only problem? Her voice: whilst Florence believed herself to be a great talent, everyone else deemed it hilariously bad.

Bayfield saw it as his role to protect Florence from the reality but this was a truth that became increasingly hard to hide. Events came to a head in 1944 when Florence decided to give a public concert at Carnegie Hall and the Pathé film will revolve around these climatic events.

Streep and Grant look set to make a dynamic and interesting duo. While the film evidently has comedic moments, it still represents a departure from Grant’s romantic comedy background and will be interesting to see how he acts the role. The film’s cast, wartime setting and true story credentials suggest an intriguing and promising movie.

Alicia Vikander lined up to star in latest Bourne film

Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, who earlier this year excelled in Ex-Machina and Testament of Youth, is reported to be in talks to star in the as-yet untitled fifth Bourne Film. The upcoming project is set to see the return of Matt Damon as Jason Bourne and Paul Greengrass as the film’s director.

The movie’s plot remains secretive, but it is likely Vikander will play a key part. In the meantime, the actress continues to make waves in Hollywood. This year she will be seen in Guy Ritchie’s 1960s set, action-adventure The Man from U.N.C.L.E and alongside Michael Fassbender in upcoming book adaptation The Light Between Oceans.

Trailer: Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World

The moving trailer for upcoming documentary Batkid Begins is probably the most uplifting video you’ll see this week. The movie follows the amazing story of five-year-old Miles Scott, a young boy who suffered from Leukaemia and who wished to become Batman for a day.
