Eddie Redmayne Favourite For Harry Potter Spin-Off
fantastic-beasts-where-to-find-themThis week’s biggest casting news concerned this year’s Best Actor Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne. Redmayne is tipped by Variety to be the frontrunner for the lead role in Warner Brother’s much-hyped Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The upcoming film is based on the Hogwarts School textbook of the same name, used by Harry Potter in the series and released in print by Rowling in 2001 in aid of Comic Relief. Marking her screenwriting debut, Rowling will write the upcoming movie, which will focus on the textbook’s fictional author Newt Scamander.

Scamander is an adventurer and ‘magizoologist’, a specialist in the study of magical creatures. The film is due to be released on 18 November 2016 and is the first in a planned trilogy, focusing on Newt’s exciting adventures.

When the film was announced last September, Rowling released a statement explaining the concept behind the film.

The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.”

Redmayne is reportedly the top choice for the role, although in March former Doctor Who actor Matt Smith was reported to be a forerunner for the role. With the release date now confirmed, casting choices should be announced over the next few months.

Sam Claflin, Jenna Coleman & Matthew Lewis Confirmed For MGM’s Me Before You

A cast of high-profile young actors has been confirmed for MGM’s Me Before You, which charts the story of Lou (Games of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke) who becomes the caretaker of Will (The Hunger Games’ Sam Claflin), a successful young man confined to a wheelchair following an accident. The two bond against all odds and Lou becomes determined to prove to Will that life is worth living. The cast will be rounded out by Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis and Doctor Who’s Jenna Coleman, with the news that Coleman is joining the production sparking fresh rumours that she might be leaving her role as Clara in Doctor Who’s upcoming season.

Interestingly the film’s plot shares some similarities with the 2011 French film The Untouchables, which tells the story of a wealthy disabled millionaire who hires a young ex-convict to become his caretaker and the two form an unlikely bond. Last autumn it was announced that an American remake of that film was in the works, due to star Colin Firth and Kevin Hart, but the project has yet to come into fruition.

Me Before You is based on the Jojo Moyes novel of the same name and is due to be released next year.

Trailer: Blythe Danner Charms In I’ll See You In My Dreams

The first trailer has been released for I’ll See You in My Dreams, a comedy drama which has been generating a lot of buzz since its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Blythe Danner stars as Carol, a widow in her seventies who finds herself unexpectedly confronting and challenging her assumptions about growing old.

The trailer is charming, funny and thought provoking, as Carol forms a bond with a charming gentleman played by Sam Elliott, and finds an unlikely friend in her pool boy, played by comedy actor Martin Starr. I’ll See You in My Dreams will hit American cinemas on 15 May 2015.
