It’s heeeeerrrrrreeeee. Sorry, couldn’t resist. Yes, that’s right folks, the first trailer for Poltergeist – the remake of Tobe Hooper’s classic 1982 ghost story – has just appeared online.

Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt are the parents this time around, replacing JoBeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson respectively, who find their family caught up in a whole mess of ghostly trouble when their quiet suburban home is suddenly terrorized by some angry, pissed off spirits.

I love the original movie. It was a great horror flick which did a great job of putting the family at the center ahead of the horror. Having said that, like most people I was initially skeptical when it was announced that the film was getting an update. But surprisingly, this trailer was actually a lot of fun. It doesn’t look like the filmmakers have done anything particularly new with the material, but it seems as though they’ve loaded it with enough thrills, chills and spills to make this a hell of a ride at the movies.

Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember) is directing this one, with Sam Raimi on board as producer and a screenplay provided by acclaimed playwright and screenwriter David-Lindsay Abaire. Here’s hoping that this won’t be another fuddled horror remake, but actually something quite fun.

The UK release for Poltergeist is yet to be confirmed.
