After months of secrecy with barely a script leak to even tide us over, the first trailer from Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four has finally arrived online. And oh boy, what a teaser it is.
Starting off with landscape shots over New York City and a vast mountain range, a sonorous voiceover, provided by The Wire’s Reg E. Cathy, contemplates our need to explore. It’s all very serious in tone, complete with the Broadchurch theme music, but it all looks very, very cool.
The marketing guys have made the smart move and decided to hold as much back as humanly possible, doing what a great teaser should do. While we do get glimpses of our four intrepid heroes (Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell respectively) we only get glimpses of their powers, and even then it’s barely a look. Hell, the one time we get a group shot is only very brief and from behind; that’s how teaser-ish this teaser trailer is.
Dare I say it, but it’s a fantastic looking teaser and the film has just jumped a couple of levels in my ‘Most Anticipated Movies of 2015’ list. Here’s hoping the final product lives up to the great promise of this trailer.
The official synopsis is as follows:
The Fantastic Four, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
The film hits our screens on August 6th.
