The trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak has been released and just one viewing will give you the heebie-jeebies.
Set in 19th century Cumbia, the film follows young author Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) who goes to live with her new husband in his crumbling and creaking mansion. Reeling from a personal tragedy, Edith is charmed by Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston), who whisks her away to a home where sinister things lie in wait.
Edith finds herself torn between the mysterious outsider – who comes complete with a strange sister to go with the strange house – and her childhood friend, played by Sons of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam.
Taking inspiration from the classic haunted house genre, del Toro describes Crimson Peak as “a ghost story and gothic romance”. The original script was written post Pan’s Labyrinth and del Toro’s trademark style is etched into every scene of the trailer.
It’s gorgeous, gruesome, murderous and magical – what more could you want from a horror film? Bodies will crawl out of the floor and skeletal hands will clutch the living, in a film that feels a lot like James Watkins’ 2012 hit, The Woman in Black.
Also starring Jessica Chastain, Jim Beaver and Burn Gorman, Crimson Peak is still in post-production but is expected to hit UK cinemas in October 2015.
