Firefly Studios have finally announced the worldwide release date for the long awaited Stronghold Crusader 2, coming to PC on September 2nd.
Firefly Studio’s decision to deliberately delay the release of the game until now, in order to develop it to the studios high standards and fully polish the game, sees many fans with high hopes eager to get their hands on it.
“It was never our intent to rush the development process,” said Firefly Co-Founder and Design Lead Simon Bradbury, “Since the beginning of the project we have maintained that Crusader 2 will pop its head above the parapet only when we are happy that it is truly ready for battle. Well now we think it is almost there.”
Stronghold Crusader 2, sequel to cult classic RTS Stronghold: Crusader, returns to the deserts of the Middle East circa 1189, with a new 3D engine and realistic castle destruction powered by Havok Physics.
The release date will be a worldwide digital and retail release, making the game available both online through Steam or as a physical copy in stores. Both the digital and physical copies of the game however will be exclusive to Steam, requiring initial activation through the platform.
With the original Stronghold and Crusader’s combined lifetime sales currently sitting at over four million, you can understand the team’s apprehension over delivering a game worthy of the Crusader series. With this in mind, Simon Bradbury confidently responded saying “We will have a sequel worthy of the Crusader name come September 2nd.”
