Edinburgh Smashes Ticket Sales Record

Edinburgh International Festival has announced ticket sales of more than £3 million, a 29% increase on 2013. Running from August 8th to 31st, the festival was just a thousand short of the largest audience ever. 2014 turned out to be a great ending to Jonathan Mills’ tenure as festival director. This year also saw an increase in female performers at the festival, with a record 183 women eligible for the Edinburgh Comedy Awards.

Dracula Manuscript Found

A rare manuscript of Bram Stoker’s Dracula is going on display in the British Library. This is of particular significance, as the manuscript for the original novel is believed to have been lost. The script was written in 1897 and will be on display as part of Terror and Wonder- The Gothic Imagination that is opening at the British Library in October. You can find out more here.

Joan Rivers Is Out Of Intensive Care

The legendary comedian Joan Rivers was in a critical condition after suffering from cardiac arrest on Friday night. Her daughter Melissa released a statement saying, “Her condition remains serious, but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible”. Here’s hoping Joan pulls through and is back to her insulting best soon.

Updated: Joan Rivers died today (Sep 4), her daughter Melissa has confirmed. The comedian passed away in New York at the age of 81.
