It’s been a while since we’ve seen a good old fashioned Hollywood disaster flick, even longer since we’ve had a decent earthquake flick. But that looks all set to change this summer with San Andreas, and excitement is already building with the first trailer which has just dropped courtesy of Dwayne Johnson’s twitter.
Directed by Brad Peyton, Johnson stars as a rescue helicopter pilot who makes a dangerous journey across California to rescue his estranged daughter in the aftermath of the biggest earthquake to hit the West Coast.
Naturally, this first trailer delivers on plenty of money shots of Los Angeles crumbling to the ground, along with Johnson getting his hero on, complete with added Paul Giamatti as the voice of doom. The film also stars Carla Gugino as Johnson’s ex-wife and Alexandra Daddario as his estranged daughter.
With next summer set to be dominated by reboots, sequels and comic book movies galore, it’s strangely refreshing to know that we’re getting a good old fashioned disaster movie.
Going by this first trailer, San Andreas could be the guilty pleasure of next summer.
