British singer-songwriter and actress Paloma Faith is encouraging the nation to do their bit for charity this coming March. She wants people to leave their suits and ties at home and instead go to work in their pyjamas. By dressing down and signing up friends and family as sponsors, she hopes that valuable funds can be raised for Comic Relief appeal. Read on to find out more.
What’s it all about?
Londoner Paloma Faith may be notable for her smash hits such as Stone Cold Sober and New York, as well as her acting talent featuring in films such as St Trinian’s and Dread, but she is now turning her attentions to raising money for charity.
Paloma is requesting the nation’s workers to wear their pyjamas for work on 15 March, in order to raise valuable funds for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day.
Whilst it’s a wacky notion, and bound to turn heads from fellow commuters, the idea is that if everyone gets involved and raises awareness of what’s going on that day, it won’t be such a strange thing after all. In fact, the morning commute into work could well turn out to be quite interesting!
Although Paloma was seen posing in the most chic of silk nightwear to promote this appeal, she says that it doesn’t really matter what you turn up to work in – whether it’s your favourite Snoopy pyjamas or anything else, it’s the taking part that really matters.
This isn’t just one for the ladies either. Men can get involved too. Whatever you choose – be it cotton pyjamas or a warm, fleecy onesie, it’s all about having some fun and doing a good turn in the meantime.
A few of your favourite celebs are getting involved as well, such as Jessie J, One Direction and Nicole Scherzinger, so there’s no excuse not to get on board.
More about Comic Relief
Most of you will have heard of Comic Relief by now, since its inception began not far off 30 years ago. This major UK charity aims to tackle world poverty, and has so far raised over £800m helping deprived people in over 70 countries, including the UK.
Paloma Faith’s support for raising funds for Comic Relief this March is for the appeal’s biennial event ‘Red Nose Day’. This alternates with the Sport Relief project. (Red Nose Day takes place in odd-numbered years and Sport Relief in even-numbered years). As well as these two high profile appeals, every November Comic Relief launches its popular Children In Need appeal.
Many people and communities have joined forces over the years to raise vital funds for these appeals, and already much has been done to help combat poverty and social injustice in the world.
However, it’s an ongoing concern, so a lot of work still needs to be done. So, whatever your choice of pyjamas, whether it’s your luxury silk nightwear, cosy onesie or cotton pyjamas, get involved this 15th March.
