On Saturday night, MIA was forced to cut her headline set at Lovebox disappointingly short.

Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam, better known as MIA was one of the most anticipated acts at Victoria park this weekend. But unfortunately for the British-Tamil singer, she only managed to get half way through her 90 minute slot before a power cut turned off all the lights and sound during her performance.

Reports have suggested that a possible cause of the incident was that a fan dislodged a cable after the solo rap artist had invited crowd members to join her on stage.

MIA who had complained of not being able to hear her own voice, looked visibly disheartened by the poor sound system throughout the show.

The technical fault was eventually fixed and MIA returned to perform her final three songs but by that time there was a sense in the crowd that it was too little too late.

Several attendees of the East London event gave Lovebox its fair share of bad press for the power cut after taking to Twitter to complain.

It wasn’t all bad news for the festival however, as a masterful set from hip hop giant Nas who performed his critically acclaimed album Illmatic took the crowd by storm.

Other performances earlier in the day came from the likes of Bonobo, The Horrors and Crystal Fighters.
