the-revenant-novelLeonardo DiCaprio is set to star in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s wilderness period thriller, The Revenant. Based on Michael Punke’s novel, The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge, the Wolf of Wall Street actor will play a 19th century trapper who survives a grizzly bear attack and sets out to exact revenge on those who betrayed him. A happy Disney-style film then. Could this mean more award noms for Leo? More to the point, will 2015 finally see him awarded that elusive Oscar? Knowing Leo’s luck, probably not.

Following his tragic death last year, Paul Walker’s brothers, Caleb and Cody, have joined the Fast & Furious 7 production. There have been many thoughts on how the franchise could and would continue without Walker but a message on the franchise’s facebook page seems to suggest that Walker’s brothers will act as body doubles. In the note to fans, the post reads: “We have resumed shooting and now welcome Paul’s brothers, Caleb and Cody, into our FAST family. Caleb and Cody are helping us complete some remaining action for their brother and fill in small gaps left in production. Having them on set has made us all feel that Paul is with us too.” This seems like a touching tribute to Walker and a sensitive way of finishing the film.

The trailer for Mike Flanagan’s horror film, Oculus, has been released and it sees Karen Gillan as Kaylie Russell, a young woman trying to exonerate her brother (Brenton Thwaites), who was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents. When Tim is released from protective custody, he wants to move on with his life, but Kaylie is still haunted by that fateful night and is convinced that it was actually something supernatural that killed her parents. It all comes down to an antique mirror, which unleashes a malevolent force that kills people. Watch the trailer below.

If you were one of those excitable few who actually enjoyed Magic Mike the first time around, you’ll be thrilled to hear that a sequel has been given a release date of July 2015. If you didn’t already know, the film will be called…wait for it…Magic Mike XXL. Oh the originality. Channing Tatum has said that the film will be a “road trip movie” with potentially the whole cast returning, which at least means we might get to witness more of Matthew McConaughey’s baby oiled abs on-screen charisma. It aint no Dallas Buyers but if we get to hear McConaughey utter his signature “alright, alright, alright” catchphrase, it’ll be worth it.
