Where do you go when you’ve spent most of the last 5 years of your career navigating Tony Stark’s ironclad world? For writer/director Jon Favreau, the answer was… the kitchen. Returning to his indie roots as writer, director, producer & star, Favreau’s Chef is a culinary celebration that’s filled with charm and comedy. Having already gone down well with audiences at SXSW, Chef looks set to tickle more than just your taste buds when it opens later this year.
Favreau plays Carl, a Michelin-star chef who decides to start a food truck business after being fired from his restaurant job. In doing so, Carl hopes to reignite his passion for food while simultaneously patching up relationships with his estranged wife and kid.
Driven by Carl’s shaggy-dog story, the parallels drawn between Chef and Swingers, which Favreau also scribed and starred in back in ‘96, are clear to see. As is Favreau’s passion for his subject matter, with the star spending time training with chef Roy Choi, who himself gained prominence in America with his own food truck business, prior to shooting the film.
With a mouthwatering cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman, Sofia Vergara, and Iron Man himself Robert Downey Jr., Chef blends gastronomy with gags to create a scrumptious looking treat that’s infused with many delightful flavors, which you will no doubt want to savor for as long as possible.
Chef is due to be released on June 20th.
