The first teaser trailer for Alfonso Cuarón’s sci-fi film Gravity has hit the internet and who would have thought that George Clooney and Sandra Bullock floating around in space could be so exciting?! If first impressions are anything to go by, this is going to be one hell of a movie.
Gravity tells the story of two astonauts who become stranded in space after their shuttle is destroyed. I can already see the depressingly sombre conclusion on the horizon and a tightening of my resolve that I never want to go into space. Ever.
There’s no denying that the trailer for Gravity is beautiful and terrifying in equal measures, as the camera floats eerily over Earth (reminding me of the Nasa time lapse View From Space video). Taking a leaf out of Lars Von Trier’s elegant and melancholy approach, the trailer favours breathtaking shots and cinematography over the ‘how many explosions can we fit into one trailer?’ method.
Of all the new teasers and trailers to be released over the past few weeks, this is the one that I’m most excited about. I can’t think of a better duo to get lost in space with than Clooney and Bullock either.
