It’s not long until the latest fairytale creation hits the big screen in the form of Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent. Whilst we wait for the 28th May to roll around, a brand new teaser trailer has grabbed our attention. Disney’s Cinderella, starring Lily James as a young Ella, has given us the tiniest (literally microscopic) taste of what to expect from the upcoming live-action feature, and it’s very shiny. Revealing the famous glass slipper and a butterfly that changes colour when it settles on the shoe, it doesn’t exactly give much away – we don’t even get a glimpse of Lily in her party dress – but it’s got people talking. Hopefully it will be better than the other young Lily’s (Collins) Snow White disaster.
From a trailer that shows nothing to a trailer that’s probably revealed the entire film in its 2.30 running time; at least the new trailer for Transformers 4: Age of Extinction is satisfying. With a new male lead at the helm – sayonara Shia, hello Wahlberg – and the exciting additions of Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer and Sophia Myles, is it wrong to think that this could actually bring back a high opinion of the Transformers franchise? “This is the greatest advance in modern physics since the splitting of the atom”, the voiceover says…so we can probably rule out originality but there is a swanky looking transformer dinosaur, which is pretty exciting for those still on board with the film series. Who doesn’t love a dinobot? Enjoy the big blockbuster goodness below.
With all the talk about Star Wars recently, we almost forgot about the superhero world, in particular Ben Affleck’s Batman. The currently untitled Superman/Batman sequel, which will be released in 2016, released its first picture of Affleck in costume and it sent the Internet into a frenzy. The image, which Zack Snyder revealed last week, shows the caped crusader looking a little sad next to his Batmobile, suggesting a grittier portrayal for Affleck – more of a nod to Frank Miller than anything we’ve seen before. Whatever you’re thoughts on Affleck playing Batman, he certainly looks the part here.
What do Jake Gyllenhaal, Sean Penn, Blake Lively, Emmy Rossum, Don Cheadle and Rashida Jones have in common? They all appear in the new cinematic trailer for Jay Z and Beyonce’s upcoming tour. Using a mock movie trailer style, the intro could almost be Spring Breakers Part 2. With plenty of money, guns and explosions, you’d be forgiven for believing this really was a trailer for a film. It’s all in the name of music. Beyonce and Jay Z’s On the Run American tour will begin on 25th June and end on 6th August. No word on any UK dates as yet.
Finally, Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla might have received an average reception from critics and cinemagoers, but that hasn’t stopped whispers that a sequel could be in the works. There’s been no confirmation on whether a sequel will happen – only rumours – and therefore there’s no word on whether Edwards would return as director. We’ll just have to wait for the official word on this.
