I loved S.J. Watson’s novel about a woman who, after a horrific attack, wakes up each morning unable to remember anything about her life. It’s a book that keeps you on your toes right until the very end and I was so excited to hear that a film version is due for release later this year.

Christine is played by Nicole Kidman, who gives a tightly wound performance and is joined by Mark Strong and Colin Firth, who are suitably suspicious as Christine’s doctor and husband respectively.

Whereas the novel is a drama that slowly amps up the mystery element, they are going for the full on thriller treatment here. Also noticeable is the fact that a few changes seem to be made from the novel. I’m not criticising this in the least, in fact changing the written diary to a video diary for example, fits the change of medium very well, adding an eerie visual element when Christine watches them back. Also, Strong’s character of Dr. Nash is older than in the book and his relationship with Christine has a very different dynamic by the looks of it. I won’t say anymore in case I spoil too much but suffice to say, this looks like it’s going to be an exciting watch!

Before I Go To Sleep is due for release in the UK on 5th September 2014
