Bungie, the infamous creators of the Halo franchise, and Activision, best known for the blockbuster franchises Call of Duty and Skylanders, have joined forces over the last few years to create what has now become the most pre-ordered new video game IP in history, Destiny.
Launching worldwide at 12.01 midnight tonight, September 9th, Destiny has become one of the biggest and most highly anticipated games of the year, winning over 180 awards and nominations, and exceeding just over 4.5 million participants in the July console beta tests.

With millions of fans expected to start playing the game on release day alone, CEO of Activision, Eric Hirshberg had a few last words he wanted to impart the game’s supporters before the big event;

“Destiny has been a labour of love and a remarkable creative journey for everyone at Activision and Bungie,” said Hirshberg “We feel that we have the opportunity to launch something huge – not just into the gaming landscape, but the pop cultural landscape. Arriving at our launch day with this much support and enthusiasm from fans and retailers is downright exciting. Moments like this just don’t come around very often.”

Along with the release of the game, tonight’s launch date will also see the Destiny Expansion Pass become available for gamers to purchase. The Expansion Pass will give fans access to two new expansions featuring brand new story missions, cooperative missions and multiplayer arenas, as well as a whole host of new gear, armour and weapons.
Destiny3Available for $34.99 as a bundle or individually at $19.99, Expansion I is scheduled to launch sometime in December, with Expansion II set to follow next year.

With time quickly counting down, there is still time for those who bought downloadable versions of Destiny to pre-load the game on to their consoles ahead of the launch, ready to get stuck into this new vast sci-fi universe as soon as the game goes live at midnight.
