Once again, Tom Hanks finds himself in trouble at sea with Paul Greengrass’ Captain Phillips. Based on real events, the film is a biopic of Captain Richard Phillips and his experience with Somali Pirates during the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama hijacking that took place in 2009. It was the first American cargo ship to be successfully hijacked since early 19th century and the story is documented in Phillips’ book, A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALS, and Dangerous Days at Sea.

If we’re to expect anything from this movie, we can expect a commendable performance (is it to early to say Oscar worthy?) from Hanks, who’s earned his title as one of Hollywood’s most loved and respected actors. Hanks will be bringing the drama whilst Greengrass, who’s past credits include the superb Green Zone, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, will no doubt give us something slick, exciting and engrossing to feast our eyes on.

Prepare yourselves for Battleship meets Bourne, as Captain Phillips will be hitting UK cinemas in October 2013.
