Captain America and Iron Man are not the only superheroes set to duke it out in 2016. The other big showdown (and arguably the more intriguing) features the two biggest hitters in any comic book universe. After a unauthorized leak, the first trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has hit the net and describing it as dark and foreboding would be something of an understatement.
In a little over two minutes, this first look at Zack Snyder’s film already boasts a ton of interesting ideas than Man of Steel did in its entire two and half hour runtime. Beginning with ominous voiceovers debating Superman’s place in the world, it highlights that this version of Supes will not be so widely accepted by the people of the world. Makes sense considering all the destruction he brought down on Metropolis in the first film, something that has been promised will be addressed in this follow up.
We then get a voiceover by Jeremy Irons’ Alfred Pennyworth before seeing Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne and the new Bat Plane and Batmobile in action, before Batman promises to make Superman bleed.
I’ll admit I was never a fan of Man Of Steel, heck I’ve never been that much of a fan of Zack Snyder, but this first-look teaser is really encouraging. It seems to promise something completely different, a new side of the superhero universe that we’ve yet to see.
It’s a shame that we only got a snippet of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor (possibly the most exciting casting choice of this whole endeavour) but for a first look, colour me excited.
