It’s amazing that the internet is still standing after trailers for some of the most anticipated franchises were released to a predictably divided crowd.
At approximately 3:07 on Friday the world saw the first promotional footage of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. At just 88 seconds there is little to be said about plot or even the characters involved, but speculation came thick and fast upon the trailer’s iTunes debut. With glimpses of John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Daisy Ridley as well as a heart-stopping sequence involving the Millennium Falcon taking on some Tie Fighters, the reception was generally one of glee from giddy Star Wars fans.
Jurassic Park fans also received a treat this week, with the Jurassic World trailer arriving two days early. Featuring an uncharacteristically serious-looking Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, the film reveals a Sea World-type attraction for visitors, with dinosaurs aplenty. The film will be released on June 12.
Joe Wright’s Pan may not have the fan base of its competitors this week but it still delivered a promising first look. Starring Hugh Jackman as the villainous Blackbeard and Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, the adaptation will be released in the UK on July 15.
Paul Thomas Anderson appeared in London last week for a number of live Q&As to promote his latest film Inherent Vice, and this week a new ‘Last Supper’ poster arrived in light of the film’s release in January. Returning collaborator Joaquin Phoenix stars as a Los Angeles detective in search of his former girlfriend, with Jena Malone, Josh Brolin and Reese Witherspoon adding to the impressive cast list.
