Japan’s latest music phenomenon merges rah-rah skirts, bows and ‘pop’ style with metal to create a dramatically strange hit (which is very popular online).
The band are called Babymetal and their debut album has reached number three on iTunes US rock chart, as well as being in the top 10 online charts for six different countries (including the UK).
The video for their new single Gimme Chocolate (hardly a metal song name) has had over 3.7m views on YouTube. In the video the guitarist and drummer are hardly shown, whilst the chorus sounds more like j-pop than metal.
All three members are under 16 and have been thrown together by music executives seeing a niche in the market (albeit a slightly weird one).
Bubblegum-metal at download now then?
