monsters-university-poster– Hollywood villain of choice William Fichtner has confirmed he’ll feature in the newly rebooted Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He’ll play Shredder, the chief villain (naturally). He’ll star opposite Megan Fox and Will Arnett and it’s expected May next year.

– Marvel Entertainment has tweeted that Robert Downey Jr. has signed on for the next two Avengers films. Rumours were abound that Downey Jr. was ready to hang up the suit but with the phenomenal box office success of Iron Man 3, he has agreed to continue for the two Avengers sequels. Any possibility of an Iron Man 4 is not thought to be part of the deal.

– The conversion of movie theatres to totally digital projection is nearly complete according to research organisation Screen Digest. It expects that 90% of cinemas worldwide will be using exclusively digital technology by the end of this year.

Monsters University has topped the global box office for its opening weekend beating World War Z in second and Man of Steel in third.

– The affectionately named Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger will star in Maggie, a film about a Dad (Arnie) coming to terms with his daughter slowly transforming into a zombie. Shooting begins in Autumn.

X-Men: Days of Future Past has been brought forward to a May 2014 release, with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes being pushed back to July next year. Fox is hoping to cash in on big success from both films. The Assassin’s Creed film starring Michael Fassbender has announced a June 2015 release date.

– After the success of Bad Teacher, Sony has announced the sequel is currently being penned. Cameron Diaz is yet to commit but original director Jake Casdan will return to oversee proceedings.

– After years of rumours, Fox have green lighted a sequel to Independence Day, the hit summer blockbuster from 1996. With a release date of summer 2015, Roland Emmerich had initially discussed the idea of two sequels but the second sequel is now not so certain. Emmerich has confirmed that Will Smith will not feature in the film.

Ocean’s Eleven and Good Will Hunting star Casey Affleck (yes brother of Ben!) has joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. Affleck will join an impressive cast which includes Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey.

– Disney has confirmed that Star Wars Episode VII will be shot at Pinewood Studios in London, much like its predecessors. Here’s hoping it lives up to the Star Wars reputation…
